Too many people overlook the importance of investing in a good quality office chair. While it doesn’t have to be the most expensive on the market, it does need to offer a comfortable and ergonomic design that is aimed at promoting spine health, day-long comfort, back support and of course boost productivity as a result.
Most people working in an office will spend many hours seated at a desk, placing a great deal of stress on the spine. By choosing the right office chair you can avoid posture and back problems, which often present themselves in lower back pain, shoulder pain and even neck pain.
Find the right office chair
Having established that an ergonomic office chair is best for back support and hours of comfort, you will find that there are many types and styles available. We take a look at some of the things that you should consider when looking for the right office chair:
- Easily adjustable seat height – you should be able to sit with your feet flat on the floor and with your thighs horizontal.
- Lumbar support – any good ergonomic chair must offer good lower back support. This alleviates the stress on the lower spine, which reduces potential back pain due to poor posture. The chair you choose should have an adjustment feature for the lumbar support (both height and depth).
- Seat width and depth should be suitable for you to sit with your back comfortably and snugly up against the backrest. You should also be able to adjust the tilt of the backrest accordingly.
- A well-padded seat with breathable material is important.
